Allgemeines/Stil:
Bad Religion ist eine Punk Band aus Los Angeles, die im Jahre 2009 ihr 30jähriges Jubiläum gefeiert hat. In der High School gründeten Greg Graffin, Brett Gurewitz, Jay Bentley und Jay Ziskrout Bad Religion, wobei Jay Ziskrout nicht mehr in der Band ist und einzig und allein Greg Graffin durchgängig in der Band war. Sie stehen beim Label Epitaph unter Vertrag, dass Brett Gurewitz gehört.
Übrigens Greg Graffin hat einen Doktor in Anthropologie und Geologie.

Lyrics:
Die Songs von Bad Religion handeln wie der Name schon sagt mitunter von Religion, aber weit häufiger geht es um Politik, da dann vorallem um Sozialpolitik und die Gesellschaft. Hier ein paar Beispiele:

1. Faith in God von How Could Hell be Any Worse? (zu hören im Spoiler)

"[...]You're living on a mound of dirt,
But you can't explain your reason for existence
So you blame it on god.

So much hatred in this world and you can't decide
Who's pulling the strings
So you figure it's god.

Your whole life foreshadows death
And you finally realize you don't want to die alone

Der Song gibt so ziemlich meine Meinung zum Thema Religion wieder. Leute wollen nich alleine sein, sie wollen jemanden der auf sie aufpasst und sie wollen das jemand für sie da is. Gott ist in dem Fall eine einfache Lösung, die man aber nich zu fanatisch verfolgen sollte.

2. A Walk von The Grey Race (zu hören im Spoiler)

"[...]And who the hell are you to tell me what to do?
You can't even tie your own haggard shoes
Your closet is a mess, and your backyard's falling down
And I have no grand ideas or intentions of sticking around

I'm gonna build a world
Independant and exempt
All alone I'll be an empire

Der Song sagt einfach nur: Steh auf, mach was aus deinem Leben und mach vorallem was du willst. Einfach, oder?

3. Leaders and Followers

But he hides his hatred with a sheepish grin

Are the boisterous hollow masses
Who lap up whatever trickles in

This vulgar social pastime

Ich denke die Bedeutung ist klar. Man Soll für sich selbst denken und nich blind/fanatisch anderen Meinungen folgen.

4. The Answer von Generator (zu hören im Spoiler)

"[...]Long ago in a dusty village
Full of hunger, pain and strife
A man came forth with a vision of truth
And the way to a better life
He was convinced he had the answer
And he complelled people to follow along
But the hunger never vansihed
And the man was banished
And the village dried up and died

Ein weiterer Song gegen Leute die einfach naiv anderen Folgen und die, die anderen ihre Meinung aufzwingen wollen. Das in der ersten Strophe besungene Dorf hätte überleben können, wenn sie sich weiter bemüht hätten und nich einfach dem Mann blind gefolgt wären. Wenn jemand einen Lösungsvorschlag nennt sind die meisten schon zufrieden, ohne ihn zu hinterfragen, was meist kein gutes Ende nimmt.

5. Them and Us von The Grey Race

"Despite that he saw blatant similarity
He struggled to find a distinctive moiety
All he found was vulgar superficiality
But he focused it to sharpness
And shared it with the others
It signified his anger and misery

Them and us
Lobbying determined through a mire of disbelievers

Dire perpetuation and incongruous insistence

Ein Song darüber, dass Menschen gerne Unterschiede suchen und sich darüber zu definieren. Was dann leider auch häufig mit "Gut" und "Böse" gleichgesetzt wird. Ein ganz und gar dämliches Verhalten in meinen Augen. Das alteingesessene Bild von den glorreichen Helden, die gegen das Böse kämpfen führt in der Hinsicht dann zu Hass, der eigentlich keine Grundlage hat.

Mein absolutes Lieblingslied von Bad Religion und wahrscheinlich mein Lieblingstext überhaupt. Mit dem Song kritisieren Bad Religion den übermäßigen Nationalstolz der Amerikaner und wie er sie blind für alles andere macht. Der Text steckt sowas von voll von Bedeutung, es is schwer alles zu erwähnen.

Albenvorstellung


Das 13te Studioalbum von Bad Religion The Empire Strikes First ist namentlich an den fünften Teil von Star wars (The Empire Strikes Back) angelehnt. Mit dem Titel spielen Bad Religion auf Bushs Präventivschlag-Taktik an. Hauptthematik ist der Irakkrieg, aber es geht auch wie bei Bad Religion üblich um die Gesellschaft und Religion. Das Album war das erste BR-Album, dass ich wirklich bewusst angehört habe, davor kannte ich BR zwar schon aber hab es nur so nebenbei gehört. Als ich mir dann mal Gedanken zu der Bedeutung der Texte gemacht hab war ich hin und weg.^^ Es klang nich nur geil, nein es war auch noch intellektuell ansprechend und es wurde angesprochen, was Sache is.

Ich muss gestehen das ich auch diese Band nicht kenne, aber ich beim rein hören festgestellt habe das die Band richtig gute Musik macht. Bad Religion bei diesem Namen habe ich erst gedacht das wäre ein Death Metal Band oder sowas ähnliches nicht des du trotz bin ich sher positiv überascht und werd mir die Band gut merken. Danke für deine tollen Band Informationen Snuff Snow.
Also was habt ihr gedacht als ihr den BAnd namen zum erstmal gesehen habt schriebt es in die kommis..????

Ich habe mir von Anfang an gedacht, dass es um eine Band geht die kritisch mit der Religion umgeht...das ist ja, zumindest in so manchem Song, auch tatsächlich der Fall.

Nun aber zu meiner Meinung zur Band. Ich finde die Musik die sie machen wirklich klasse, mein Favorit ist bislang "American Jesus" ^^ Der Sound ist klasse und der Inhalt einfach sowas von wahr xD

Da ja "Bad Religion" allem Anschein nach etwas "leicher verdaulichen " Punk machen, könnte man sie dann vielleicht mit Green Day vergleichen? Also rein von der Art ihrer Musik?

Haha Death-Metal oder Black-Metal war auch mein erster Gedanke als ich den Bandnamen das erste Mal gehört hab. xDDD Aber da ich demjenigen der mir BR nahegelegt hat Vertraut habe hab ich sie mir angehört und war ziemlich begeistert.

Nun, BR und Green Day machen beide ruhigeren Punk mitunter sind ein paar Lieder schon eher Rock als Punk und sie hatten auch beide den selben Produzenten, von daher is eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit schonmal nich abzustreiten.

Thematisch liegen die beiden Bands auch recht eng beieinander, aber die Umsetzung von BR ist halt intellektuell fordernder als die von Green Day.

Gesangstechnisch lassen sich BR und GD aber leicht unterscheiden, Graffin und Armstrong haben schon recht unterschiedliche Ansätze in der Hinsicht. Zumal BR sehr häufig mehrstimmig singt und dafür auch recht bekannt ist.

Was ich von BR übrigens sehr sympatisch fand war, dass sie ihr Live-Album "30 Years Live" kostenlos verschenk haben. Sowas sieht man heutzutage recht selten.
